Reasons to use the Android framework for threading: you must implement the following on your own:
- Synchronization with the main thread if you post back results to the user interface
- No default for canceling the thread
- No default thread pooling
- No default for handling configuration changes in Android
Threads vs Process
- Threads are a subset of processes.
- Threads share memory except for the Stack
