Note: As per this article, extended stored procedures are deprecated after Sql Server 2008 R2. You should use ClrStoredProcedures instead.
An extended stored procedure or (XP) is a DLL that can be run by the SQL Server. Extended stored procedures are created in a programming language such as C. The stored procedure runs inside of the SQL server. You must have permission to run the stored procedure.
